Cheaper services may be available - so why choose us?

A child and young person's GP or Dentist specialises in Paediatrics. That's because it's essential. You also rightly expect that the therapeutic services you use are fully trained, qualified and experienced specifically to support infants, children, young people and families.

Why does this matter?

It's essential that children, young people and their families get the most appropriate support for them. This ensures that their specific emotional and mental health needs are being met.

Checklist questions to ask before using a therapeutic service for children, young people and families

  • Do practitioners work with your most vulnerable children and young people, often with complex needs?

  • Are practitioners fully trained and qualified at an appropriate level for your children and young people?

  • Is each practitioner a registered member of a professional body (we're both BAPT and MBACP registered)?

  • Does each practitioner receive monthly, in-depth Clinical Supervision?

  • Do practitioners have insurance?

  • Are practitioners trained in Infant, Child or Young Person Development, Attachment, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and Trauma Informed practices?

  • Are they fully qualified and registered Play Therapists and Creative Counsellors?

  • Do they also offer the option of nearly-qualified trainee therapists/counsellors?

  • Have they trained and studied in child and young people appropriate therapies such as Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy, Art Therapy, or Sandtherapy?

  • Are practitioners trained in using Child-Centred, child and young person-led approaches?

  • Have they trained to use 'bottom up' Sensory Regulatory and Integratory, and Embodiment therapeutic skills and techniques in sessions?

  • Are practitioners trained to support children and young people where they may need to revisit any important missed emotional developmental milestones?

  • Do practitioners use child and young person-friendly assessment and monitoring?

  • Do practitioners provide an all-round, holistic and systemic service which supports families and siblings, as well as the child or young person through emails, Zoom and calls?

  • Do families choose to continue sessions and stay in contact in the breaks and holidays?

  • Do families, including those who are under-resourced and marginalised, as well as families who are sometimes considered 'hard to reach'*, fully engage with their child's sessions and practitioner?

We can answer yes to all questions.

*We question the idea that a family is 'hard to reach'.

Improved life-outcomes and equity, promotes social inclusion and supports greater social mobility.

We've walked in the same shoes as many of our families and understand first-hand the additional disadvantage and socio-economic factors that marginalised families in our community face.

This is just one of the reasons we're not a 'done to' service. We're delighted that we reach and build strong, positive relationships and connections with our families. Families say our flexible, adaptable and responsive approach makes all the difference.

Thoughtful look

Families tell us that they 'trust us', we 'get it', 'we're alongside'.

Children, young people and families are expert in their own experiences.

They share what they've been frustrated with elsewhere - so we listen and work collaboratively so we're accessible and inclusive, overcoming any barriers together.

Support extends beyond sessions. We're at the end of an email, Zoom or the phone, and arrange meetings and sessions on days and evenings times that work for families. They and their child can have support beyond the end of their work, as appropriate.

These strong relationships mean we're always working collaboratively to best support their child.

All children, young people and families should have the same quality of service.

The consistently high scoring family feedback and engagement, and the continued, long-lasting positive progress and outcomes shown by our monitoring, feedback and data, highlights why you should also expect this from services that you choose.

Professionals frequently let us know that they're seeing their children and young people have significantly higher self-esteem and that 'they're now a happy child, that opens up about their feelings, without having meltdowns'. Most importantly, families, as well as the children and young people themselves share that they sleep better, 'don't have nightmares anymore', or say 'I'm not really angry, and if I am I can control it', and 'I don't feel anxious now'.

We're equally delighted to hear of these positive changes to their mental health and wellbeing as they share this enthusiastically with us, too.
